Social media is vital for most small businesses and entrepreneurs, but sometimes people make avoidable mistakes because they are focusing too much on the wrong things. Here are 5 mistakes you want to avoid when handling your social media account for your business.
1. No Plan. All Action.
It’s important to have a plan in place before you start posting on social media. Create a brand, style, and voice that conveys what your business is about. Plan out WHAT and HOW you will market to your audience. Don’t post content with no mission or goal in mind. Need help making a plan? Try using our Social Media Strategy Template!
2. Quantity is NOT Everything!
When it comes to social media, quality will always be better than quantity. You can have 10,000 followers on your page, but still, have barely 10 people engaging with your content. People care more about the effort and quality you put in because it speaks about what you are providing to your consumers.
3. Wanting it ALL.
Just because there are 10 different social media platforms out there, does not mean that you need to be on all 10 platforms. For all we know, your audience may not even be using some of these platforms. It is better to focus on 1-2 social media platforms and build a strong presence than to spread yourself thin on multiple accounts.
4 Forgetting about Competition.
We are in a competitive market and it is important to know what your competition is doing. This does not mean copying their strategies, but understanding what kind of content is working for them. How is your competition utilizing social media to their advantage and how can you do the same?
5. Ignoring Self-Progress.
It is important to remember to keep track of your social media. Don’t keep posting the same kind of posts if they aren’t working. Analyze your results and always improve your strategies so you are constantly growing. Check yo self, before you wreck yo self.
